1975-1993

I finished my study of elementary school to senior high school in Medan and also I had studied in Islamic studies school from 1982 to 1989, this school is as elementary school of Islamic studies. I have started my hobbies since I studied at elementary school (SD Harapan 2 Medan). When I studied at elementary school, my teacher always supported me to join in many drawing competitions. I could win some competitions. I liked to draw panorama and person. I used to use pastel and oil paint in my drawing. Besides that, I liked to write anything. When I studied at elementary school, I used to write children stories and sent to Waspada and Mimbar Umum newspapers, two local newspapers in Medan. Sometimes, I wrote some poems and drew some sketches. Until now, I still have them and I collected them in a book, which I called 'SAFARI FROM SAFRI'. This book consists of my writing, sketches and poems.

Besides that, I liked to join some organizations and some discussion groups. I thought, it was okay for me, I could improve my ability, especially in how to make good friends, how to understand other people and I can get a lot of information and new knowledge. I made a lot of friends; some of them became my close friends. I started to be involved in organization since junior high school. I became the chairman of student's board in a junior high school, SMP Harapan 2, at Medan.

In Senior high school (SMA Negeri 1 Medan) period, I was an active organizer of Ibnu Shina mosque management and also art and graphic division of art studio of a senior high school in Medan. Both of the organizations contributed to my self-development. In those organizations, I learned so much about matters concerning organization, discussion, debate, opening my opinions or ideas and making friends with other people. Sorts of positions in those organizations increased my experience in organization. 'Koetoe' was my nickname in senior high school. Yeah, my friends said, maybe because I am short and energetic but I am smart too, he..he... I am also known as a member of 'three mafia designers' that consisted of Mas, Totok and me. We are always unvalued in all of activities in school that were related to decoration, painting and artistic design. The biggest of our working was painting a big poster for our independence celebration, on August 17, 1991. The poster was very big (10 x 10 meters). And then, we are pioneers in using oil paint for poster in my school. We always made many posters by using oil paint.

Besides that, I was an activist in Islamic Youth of my neighborhood. We always made a lot of activities such as Islamic holiday celebrations, social activities, discussions, trainings, helping to develop our mosque and etc. I think, i could enjoy my youth time very good.

1993-1999

After I finished senior high school in Medan, I continued my study in Bandung. Alhamdulillah, I was accepted in civil engineering department of ITB in 1994. I studied at the Institute of Technology Bandung. My major was civil engineering. I had reasons why I chose this major. When I studied in senior high school, I liked to study mathematics and physics subjects. And I knew, this major would have good prospects for the future.

In Bandung, I tried to develop my experience in organization again. In the beginning of my study, I tried to join IMMAM (Moslem Student Society from Medan) Bandung and student center of ITB. In IMMAM, my top career was general secretary. I didn't join student center of ITB for long. I started to be active in seminars and discussion forum department. Following my study in campus, I joined KMMS (Civil Engineering Moslem Student Society) ITB and (Civil Engineering Student Association) HMS ITB. The two organizations meant much and increased my experience in organization. My top career in both organizations, KMMS ITB and HMS ITB were the treasurer of KMMS ITB from 1996 to 1997 and a member of research and development department of HMS ITB from 1996 to 1997.

In the end of my study, my friends and I in KMMS ITB tried to build a public service unit. We called it UPM KMMS (Public Service Unit of KMMS) ITB, Bandung. This organization was consultant for management and structure design of building. I became the first chairman of this organization. Besides, I was always active in discussion forums with my friends, especially, in IMMAM, HMS and my boarding house. Alhamdulillah, this forum still continues until now, especially, 'the mafia-ITB forum' in This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   mailing list. I could finish my study in February 1999, and graduated from department of civil engineering in ITB Bandung exactly on last June 19, 1999. I finished my study in the undergraduate program after 4.5 years.

In the end of my study, my friends and I established an organization concerning development plan and information study, especially about economic and information technology. We called the organization 'Indonesia Prospectus'. But because all of the members of this organization are to continue their study, so this organization is postponed. I tried to work when I studied in undergraduate program. I had worked in a foreign company in Irian Jaya, the Freeport Indonesia Company. This company has active in gold and copper mining. Before this I worked in a real estate company in Medan, Royal Sumatra golf field and country club.
